Open Access Research Infrastructure in the Western Balkans Support Programme
The Regional Cooperation Council successfully implemented the Open Access Research Infrastructure in the Western Balkans Support Programme in 2020. The Programme assisted removing obstacles to mobility of students, researchers and scholars.
The Programme:
- guided the preparation of the Open Access policies for 30 selected Research Infrastructures in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia and
- trained management, administrative and research staff to introduce principles of Open Access.
The development of Open Access policies is an essential part of the well-functioning research infrastructures.
Open access research infrastructure in the Western Balkans
Developing the Open Science practices in the higher education and public research organisations in the region is a work in progress.
Apart from the above points, the RCC assisted the regional open access research infrastructures developments in other ways.
First, the RCC coordinated the Protocol on Open Access to Research Infrastructure in the Western Balkans negotiations. In November 2020, the WB governments endorsed the Protocol during at the Berlin Process Summit in Sofia.
Also, the RCC helped establish the Network of Open Access Research Infrastructures in the Western Balkans.
