Urban Future Finance Challenge

The Urban Future Finance Programme, launched by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aims to accelerate urban transformation in the Western Balkans.

This initiative focuses on innovative financial solutions to address the region's urban development challenges.

Cities in the Western Balkans often face financial difficulties, including strict regulations, limited budgets, and a lack of investor interest. These challenges hinder sustainable, green, and inclusive urban growth.

The BOOST programme is working to change this by promoting innovative financial strategies and leveraging digital technologies to support urban development.

By fostering a stronger civil society and encouraging collaboration between public and private sectors, the programme aims to create resilient and thriving urban environments.

This approach benefits the cities and contributes to the region's overall economic and social well-being.

Eligible organisations include academic institutions, financial institutions, micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, municipalities, non-profits, social enterprises, startups, and Universities.

BOOST will onboard up to 20 teams working on innovative solutions with the potential to unlock urban growth. The programme will include

  • Participation in a four-week BOOSTCamp, featuring an in-person event in November (location to be announced), offering an immersive, hands-on experience with key networking opportunities.
  • Tailored training sessions designed to fast-track solutions towards market readiness and scalability.
  • Exclusive mentorship from industry experts, specializing in impact measurement, business model development, and innovative financing strategies.
  • Matchmaking opportunities with cities ready to test and implement cutting-edge solutions.
  • Opportunities to access financial and technical support from UNDP, investors and partners.
  • A lifelong alumni network, providing continued support, collaboration, and valuable connections.
